There’s not doubt why the holiday season is so stressful. With the excess in food, lights and spending it’s a wonder why people call it one of the most wonderful times of the year. SInce the season does add excessive amounts of stress, here’s a list of things you can to do make sure you are making self-care a top priority so you can better serve the ones you love.

Sleep

Making sure you get enough sleep is essential if you want to survive and thrive during the holiday season. Studies have shown that getting eight hours of sleep each night will help the body heal, remove toxins, regenerate organs and improve brain function. Sleep is especially important if you’ve been working long hours or spending too much time with loved ones.

Massage

Schedule a massage this season and treat yourself! Regular massages can help you improve your health by relaxing your muscles and reducing stress. Scheduling a massage is a perfect way to designate some personal time that will allow you to take space from the ones you love and to come back feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready to roll. If you don’t have enough time, or a massage is too expensive, try looking into self-massage.

Go For A Walk

If the family is around and things get too intense, instead of freaking out, try going for a walk. Taking a walk can help you disengage from a toxic situation and can also help you let off a little excess steam that may have been brought on by all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

Create Something

One of the best ways to take care of yourself during the holiday season is to create something new! This could be anything from a hand-painted Christmas ornament to Christmas cookies. If you’re over the holiday-related vibe, try drawing a picture or taking some photos, or writing something. Engaging in creative energy can help reduce stress while providing a positive outlet.

Express Your Emotions

One of the best ways to care for yourself is to express your emotions. If you feel like crying, then do it, it’ doesn’t matter who is around. If you feel like laughing, don’t hesitate to spread joy. Emotions are part of the human experience and by embracing them, we not only care for ourselves, we better relate to the ones around us.
