Thankfully, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel.
Because the ending was a major cliffhanger, it paved the way for a potential revival of the revival. If Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos’ comments to the UK’s Press Association are any indication, we may be getting just that.
“We hope [there are more installments]. We obviously loved the success of the show, fans loved how well it was done, it delivered what they hoped,” said Sarandos, adding, “the worst thing is to wait a couple of years for your favorite show to come back and for it to disappoint you, but they sure delivered and people were really excited about more, and we have been talking to them about the possibility of that.”
Sarandos’ comments leave a lot to the imagination. “People” and “them” could be anyone, but if he’s lowkey referring to show creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino, then the future of the series remains unclear, considering they’ve expressed their contentment with the way they ended the show.
“We really had a very specific journey in our minds and we fulfilled the journey. So to us, this is the piece that we wanted to do,” Sherman-Palladino told The Hollywood Reporter in November. “And the whole thought about, ‘Is there more, is there more, is there more?’- this has to go out into the universe now. We’ve got to put this to bed. And then whatever happens, happens.”
The Palladino’s originally left Gilmore Girls after the show’s sixth season after a contract disagreement with Warner Brothers, so they never got to end the show the way they wanted to. The final four words lived in Sherman-Palladino’s head until they were finally able to make the revival, and based on their comments, it seems they are fully satisfied with their efforts.
Nevertheless, Sarandos’ comment that they are in “very preliminary” talks for another round of Gilmore Girls gives Stars Hollow fans everywhere a glimmer of hope. There’s still so much left to fast-talk about!
