The late Selena Quintanilla’s husband and musician Chris Perezannounced yesterday on Facebook that his book To Selena With Lovewill be adapted into a TV show.
Perez wrote To Selena With Love in 2012, and tells the story of his and Quintanilla’s relationship. It’s being adapted to television by Major TV and Endemol Shine in both English and Spanish, and the series will include details and perspectives not covered in the book.
Selena, who was tragically murdered in 1995, was one of the most influential Latina artists of her time, having sold over 60 million albums worldwide. She is still honored and remembered today, and her fan base has only grown posthumously. In October, MAC Cosmetics launched a Selena themed makeup line that sold out almost immediately and crashed their website.
In his announcement, Perez said he “spent several years keeping the memories of my late wife bottled up inside.”
“To Selena with Love allowed me to finally embrace my experience and understand the void it could fill in the hearts of so many others,” he said. “I am now ready to take the important step of being fully transparent and bringing my everlasting relationship to life on the screen.”
No word yet on an estimated premiere date, so until then, I’ll be here, blasting Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, speculating on who will get the honor of playing Selena, and holding back happy tears.
