Let's get real... 2017 was an amazing year for Barbie!
The blonde-haired, blue-eyed, and perfect bod doll was no longer the center of attention as more inclusive dolls came out to play. In 2017, Barbie dropped the first-ever hijab-wearing doll in honor of medal-winning Olympian Ibtihaj Muhammad. A proud LGBTQ-supporting Barbie also made the rounds with her "Love Wins" tee inspired by Fashion Blogger and Businesswoman Aimee Song.
These dolls were in addition to the already-existing line of plus size dolls, petite dolls, and career dolls, to name a few. In recent years, Barbie has stepped up its game to make every child feel identified.
For those who are obsessed with the beloved brand, brace yourself because 2018 is coming full force with a new Barbie line sold exclusively at Macy's.
Love Tribe, the apparel line for fashionistas with mega goals created by Hybrid Apparel, launched the collection, also available in plus sizes, on January 11th in-stores and online.
“We’re delighted to bring one of the most iconic brands into a new light with a generous dose of fun and positivity,” said Bonnie Dogan, Vice President of Sales for Specialty Retailers at Hybrid Apparel. “Barbie continues to be an essential companion for young women across the globe, and we feel this is the perfect time for them to receive inspired, contemporary messages through a brand they know and love.”
Make a powerful statement this year with a tee that says "Not Bossy, Just The Boss" or "Never Basic." "The release of the line comes at a time when the appetite for pop culture nostalgia shows no signs of slowing down, as young people rediscover and celebrate their childhood favorites through social media, apparel, and entertainment," the company said to VIX in a statement.
