Virtual reality has burst onto the entertainment tech scene hoping to be the next hot topic and make a big splash. While it does allow for some great fun VR hasn't quite lived up to the hype in terms of gaming, but it seems to have found another industry to flourish in.

Porn is the secret pleasure for many people, and it ends up being a billion dollar industry every year. Virtual Reality wanted a piece of the porn pie and in just over a year half a million VR porn videos are being streamed daily, which is a 250 percent increase. The average VR user consumes eleven videos a day. It shouldn't come as a surprise that men are 160 percent more likely to view VR porn than women.

Virtual reality technology offers a first-person viewing experience to users rather than third-person, which helps the user feel more involved in the action on screen. This opened up an entirely new market for porn.

The benefits of VR all sounds great until you consider that some users could begin to think that their partner is no match for their headset. This was evident after conducting research that used 45 volunteers, 14 men, 18 women and three described as other, to find out how VR porn could be used.

The sensory experience of VR porn makes users feel like active participants rather than a viewer. Dr. Madeline Balaam, co-author of the study, states unrealistic expectations because characters look exactly how users want and do precisely as the users instruct them to do. This could set unrealistic expectations in the real bedroom and have damaging effects on relationships.
