Mickey Mouse has been proving smiles and happiness throughout the world for nearly nine decades! Yes, you read that right. The friendly Disney cartoon character will celebrate its 89th birthday in 2017 and we are thrilled.
Mickey is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. His debut was on November 18, 1928, in the short film Steamboat Willie. The rest, as they say, is history.

1. Oscar-Winning Movies
Mickey has appeared in over 130 films. Ten of which were nominated for an Academy Award. Short film Lend a Paw starring Mickey and Pluto won the Oscar in 1942.
2. Hollywood Star

Mickey has become one of the world's most recognizable characters. He's so popular that in 1978, he became the first cartoon character to nab a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
3. His real personality
At first, he was meant to be characterized as a mischievous antihero. Throughout the years, he was rebranded as an adventurous hero.
There are a couple of speculations about Mickey's creation. One of them is Walt Disney was scared of mice, yet he pictured them as sympathetic creatures. Another is that Disney got inspiration from a tame mouse at his work desk at Laugh-O-Gram Studio in Kansas City.
5. His OG Name
Mickey's original name was Mortimer Mouse. Disney's wife, Lillian, however, convinced him to change it. Thank you, Lilli!
6. Mickey's hands
Mickey has four fingers for two reasons: 1) Five fingers are too much for a mouse—meaning his hands would look like a bunch of bananas, and 2) Not having the 5th finger has saved the Studio millions of dollars and artists time!
7. His clothing
Before color animation, Mickey's shorts were either red or a dull blue-green. On the reg, he wears red shorts, large yellow shoes, and white gloves.
8. His massive closet
Word on the street is that he has a huge wardrobe with over 175 different costumes. His other half, Minnie Mouse, has over 200 outfits. #FashionGoals
9. Voice of Mickey Mouse
Mickey Mouse was originally voiced by Walt Disney. Throughout his trajectory, he was voiced by other actors, including Wayne Allwine, who made his debut in the 1983 short film Mickey's Christmas Carol. Allwine voiced Mickey until he passed away in 2009.

11. He's uber famous
Mickey Mouse is so, so, so, so, so, so, but so, famous that he's even more popular than Santa Claus around the world.
12. His first words
He was the first-ever cartoon to talk and in 1929, Mickey said his first words: "Hot Dogs" in Disney's The Karnival Kid.
13. The Hidden Mickey's
Believe it or not, there are hidden Mickey Mouses all over Disney World, Disneyland, and even featured Disney films!
14. Mickey's Height
According to M Magazine, Mickey is estimated to be 2 feet and 3 inches tall and weighs about 25 pounds. Ugh, the cuteness!
15. Mickey Requirements
Want to get a gig as a Mickey Mouse mascot at one of the parks? Simple Most states that actors must be between 4'8" and 5'2" and must practice the iconic "Mickey" signature with the big white gloves on!
