Last week, Playboyproudly announced its November 2017 Playmate, French model Ines Rau. Beautiful women are featured in Playboy every month, but Ines is different. She’s stunning, obviously, but she’s also the first transgender Playmate in the magazine’s 64-year history.
While Ines isn’t the first trans model to appear in Playboy (that title goes toCaroline “Tula” Cossey in 1981), she is the first Playmate, and it’s an honor she does not take lightly.
“When I was doing this shoot, I was thinking of all those hard days in my childhood,” she told Playboy. “And now everything happening gives me so much joy and happiness. I thought, Am I really going to be a playmate —me? It’s the most beautiful compliment I’ve ever received. It’s like getting a giant bouquet of roses.”
Although the trans community has made progress in terms of societal acceptance, Playboyreceived tons of negative backlash on Twitter following its announcement of Ines as Playmate. They’ve respectfully battled their Twitter trolls by comparing their current ignorance to that of Playboy readers from the 1960s, who wrote letters complaining about the magazine’s first black playmate, Jennifer Jackson.
Despite the hate, Ines’ career is about to blow up. The 26-year-old model is gorgeous, and she’s making history. Here are seven interesting things you should know about her, before the November/December issue hits stands.
1. She’s half North African, half French.
Born and raised in Paris, Ines has North African blood, too. She toldAllure that as a little boy, her dream was to become a princess or a rockstar. She lives between New York and Paris, but hopes to relocate to Los Angeles soon.
2. This isn’t her first modeling gig.
Ines is a seasoned model, having appeared in both American and Italian Vogue and a campaign for Balmain, in addition to several other magazine spreads and fashion campaigns. This also isn’t the first time she appears in Playboy. In May 2014, she appeared fully nude in the magazine’s special A-Z edition. She told Playboy it was her way of coming out, as the spread she was featured in was titled “Evolution,” and talked about “gender identities beyond the male-female binary.” Ines said that after its publishing, she “took that chance, and then I signed with an agency.”
3. She’s tight with David Guetta.
According to Playboy, she started dancing for DJs in Ibiza when she was 18-years old, and still calls David Guetta a “close friend.”
4. She signed a book deal, and hopes to break into film.
The model tells Playboy that she really wants to be an action star, and that she just finished shooting a film. She’s a martial arts enthusiast, including “boxing, kickboxing, Thai boxing, full contact, all of it,” so it seems fitting that her passions would lie within that genre.

5. Climate change is her priority.
Although she’s a fierce advocate for LGBTQ and women’s rights, she says fighting for the environment is the cause nearest to her heart.
“I will always fight for LGBTQ rights and women’s rights, but above everything else, my cause is the environment,” she said. “Nothing touches me more than fighting against global warming. I was made to fight for the planet —the forest the animals, the air. If I get famous, that’s my first battle.”
6. She loves to party.
She told Playboy she considers partying “a celebration of life —a social thing.” She’s also a big fan of deep house music, American hip hop, classical music, and opera.
7. She currently dates French model/actor Staiv Gentis.
She hasn’t spoken about the relationship publicly, but they have enough pictures together on Instagram and Facebook that scream true love.
