When thinking of Frida Kahlo, you probably imagine a strong personality and vibrant colors!
The fierce Kahlo lived her life her way, doing and wearing whatever made her feel happy. When she died in 1954, her adoring husband Diego Riveralocked her vibrant frocks in a bathroom in their home and vowed to keep them hidden away for 15 years after his death.
Rivera died in 1957, shortly after Kahlo, but her wardrobe didn’t see the light of day until 2004 when their home, which was turned into a museum, decided to make an exhibition of Kahlo’s clothes for the world to see.
The museum invited photographer Ishiuchi Miyako to shoot the garments, giving us an exclusive inside look into Kahlo’s bold fashion choices. Take a peek into her closet below.
