Recently, an Univision reporter interviewed retired basketball player, Kobe Bryant, and asked how he became a fluent Spanish speaker, his response: watching novelas!

Bryant, who is raising two half Latinx daughters, says he picked the language up "watching novelas with my wife, Vanessa, and with my mother-in-law as well.”

Back in April after ending his 20-year basketball career, Bryant expressed his gratitude towards the Latinx community saying, "Latino fans are important to me, because when I arrived [in Los Angeles] they were the fans who most passionately embraced me. So I told them, ‘give me two or three years so that I can learn a little bit of Spanish."

Bryant is already able to conduct interviews fully in Spanish with the help of trusty novelas like 2005'sLa Madrastaas well as Sabado Gigante, both of which he mentioned.
