You know what’s shittier than Donald Trump having been elected POTUS? Donald Trump having been elected POTUS right before the holidays.
Many people around the states have said they would consider moving to Canada if Trump won the presidency, and sure enough, Americans actually crashed the Canadian immigration website on election day.
For those of you already making plans to peace TF out, take a step back. If not because we need you here now more than ever, then at least because Canadian Thanksgiving already passed!
Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October, the same day that Americans celebrate Columbus Day. Our Thanksgiving celebrates the meal between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Native Americans in 1621, but Canadians commemorate the 1578 voyage of English seaman Martin Frobisher.
According to The Canadian Encyclopedia, Frobisher and his crew were searching for the Northwest Passage, and had a tumultuous journey. To celebrate their safe arrival in Newfoundland, they had a meal of salt beef, biscuits, and mushy peas.
Other than that, the pomp and circumstance is pretty much the same.
So, soon-to-be Canadian immigrants, don’t freak out! You’ll still have turkey, pie, football, and all that good stuff. You’ll just have to wait a year to get it.
