Relationships are difficult enough to maintain without the added pressure of being miles apart from the person you love the most. Sometimes life offers opportunities that you can't refuse and takes you on separate journeys to a better you. Moving forward doesn't mean that you have to leave your soulmate behind. This is how I deal with my current long distance situation.
Exchange Personal Items
Exchange gifts before you part ways. It can be a really special gift to be remembered by or something dear that belongs to you. I'd prefer something like matching Rolex watches, but I can't afford that so I'd be happy with pretty much anything. The point is for that person to think of you whenever they look at it. It also serves as comfort item like the adult version of a baby blanket.
Avoid Excessive Communication
With so many ways to communicate including social media it’s a good idea to not overdo it. Give your partner a chance to miss you. Remember, absence makes the heart grow fonder. That doesn't mean fall off the map for days on end. Just give them enough space to enjoy missing you.
You may think this sounds like a high school thing to do, but it’s not. A lil sexting; okay, a lot of sexting would put the icing on the cake for your partner, so don’t be shy.
Use Technology To Your Advantage
There is no reason not to video chat these days. Seeing a person's face is an added bonus that we are fortunate to have. Could you imagine having to resort to being pen pals like back in the day?
Look at your time apart as a time where you can also focus on making yourself an all around better human being. This also keeps you from focusing on other people in your new surroundings. Your distant lover will surely appreciate your growth as an individual because it should make you stronger as a couple.
Knowing you’ll see that person soon makes things a lot easier to deal with. Surprise visits are necessary and are great because they make your partner feel very special. Just make sure that you time them appropriately.
Set A Goal For Reuniting
Simply setting a date for when you will be back in each other's arms helps keep you grounded because you know the distance eventually won't be a factor.
