Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun: Everything You Need to Know About This Musical Drama

If you live under a rock there was some serious drama happening on social media over the weekend that involves Taylor Swift and the famous music manager Scooter Braun, you know... that guy who made Justin Bieber extremely famous and who is now working with Latin artist J Balvin and Demi Lovato. what's going on?

Braun just purchased "Big Machine Label Group" for a reported $300 million, and it has caused some controversy with Taylor Swift because he now owns ALL the master recordings of all six of her previous albums.

So... what's the big deal?

She pointed fingers at Scott Borchetta, Big Machine’s CEO and founder, accusing him of taking advantage of her work.

"When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter,” she wrote. “He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.”

Swift also claims that she was not given the opportunity to own her work in the first place and she also called out Scooter for the “incessant, manipulative bullying” that she’s allegedly received at his hands for years.

Wait but is her work, her music, her blood and tears....

Yes and it sucks! However; Borchetta published a post revealing something that many people might ignored...

Guess what?

Swift’s father, Scott Swift, is a shareholder in Big Machine and all shareholders were alerted of the sale on Tuesday, June 25th, Borchetta also claimed that the details were finalized in a shareholder’s vote on Friday, June 28th and he added that he contacted Swift via text message on the following Saturday to personally let her know of the situation.

He added that he gave her the option to stay with everything by signing a new deal with the record label but she chose to continue working exclusively with Universal Music Group, where she now owns all future recordings.

“100% of all Taylor Swift assets were to be transferred to her immediately upon signing the new agreement. We were working together on a new type of deal for our new streaming world that was not necessarily tied to ‘albums’ but more of a length of time … Taylor had every chance in the world to own not just her master recordings, but every video, photograph, everything associated to her career. She chose to leave.”

And.... many artists have been picking sides; check out the social media posts:

Hey Taylor. First of all i would like to apologize for posting that hurtful instagram post, at the time i thought it was funny but looking back it was distasteful and insensitive.. I have to be honest though it was my caption and post that I screenshoted of scooter and Kanye that said “taylor swift what up” he didnt have anything to do with it and it wasnt even a part of the conversation in all actuality he was the person who told me not to joke like that.. Scooter has had your back since the days you graciously let me open up for you.! As the years have passed we haven’t crossed paths and gotten to communicate our differences, hurts or frustrations. So for you to take it to social media and get people to hate on scooter isn’t fair. What were you trying to accomplish by posting that blog? seems to me like it was to get sympathy u also knew that in posting that your fans would go and bully scooter. Anyway, One thing i know is both scooter and i love you. I feel like the only way to resolve conflict is through communication. So banter back and fourth online i dont believe solves anything. I’m sure Scooter and i would love to talk to you and resolve any conflict, pain or or any feelings that need to be addressed. Neither scooter or i have anything negative to say about you we truly want the best for you. I usually don’t rebuttal things like this but when you try and deface someone i loves character thats crossing a line..

"Coming to Braun’s defense," Lovato wrote on Instagram, “I have dealt with bad people in the industry and Scooter is not one of them. He’s a good man.”

Cara Delevingne -Team Swift

"Gentleman?" Delevingne wrote in the form of an Instagram comment,. "@Haileybaldwin @justinbieber you must be bored. I wish you spent less time sticking up for men and more time trying to understand women and respecting their valid reactions. As a married man, you should be lifting women up instead of tearing them down because you are threatened. I am not sure you actually understand what an apology is. The issue that @taylorswift is talking about is far more than a picture and you know that. As you said, you haven't spoken to her in years which means you definitely don't understand the situation. I do. Take a step back and learn from this. We should all be on the same team. End of story."
