7 Oscar-Nominated Films To Binge-Watch Ahead Of The Academy Awards

The 2019 Academy Awards are just around the corner.

On Sun. February 24, 2019, the Oscars will be celebrating its 91st annual awards and we're counting down to Hollywood's biggest night by picking out seven nominated movies you MUST watch!

#1) I, Tonya

I, Tonya, starring and produced by Marget Robbie, tells the true story of two-time Olympian medalist figure skater Tonya Harding, who began ice skating at the age of three. In 1991, Harding became the first American woman to successfully land a triple axel in competition. I, Tonya is nominated for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Editing at the 2018 Oscars.

#2) A Fantastic Woman

A Fantastic Woman, directed by Sebastian Lelio, is one of the films nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. The Chilean drama tells the story of a transgender singer who faces discrimination after the death of her boyfriend.

#3) Coco

Disney's Coco is one of the sweetest movies you'll ever watch! The movie, nominated for Best Original Song and Animated Feature at the Oscars, is about a young Mexican boy named Miguel who aspires to be a musician and travels to the colorful Land of the Dead to discover his family history.

#4) Lady Bird

Lady Bird is about a teen whose family is struggling financially and takes us through the loving yet troubled relationship she has with her mother. Named one of Time top 10 films of the year, Lady Bird has five Oscar nods, including Best Picture.

#5) The Shape of Water

Directed by Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water leads the pack at this year's Academy Awards with 13 nods. Based in the early '60s, the fantasy movie is about a mute cleaning lady who falls in love with a mysterious sea creature from South America that lives in a water tank at the lab where she works.

#6) Loveless

Like A Fantastic Woman, Russian movie Loveless is also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2018 Oscars. The intense, mystery flick is about a 12-year-old boy who disappears after witnessing the brutal divorce his parents are going through.

#7) Loving Vincent

Nominated for Best Animated Feature, Loving Vincent is the first fully painted animated feature film and tells the life and death of renowned painter Vincent van Gogh. The movie is directed by Polish filmmaker Dorota Kobiela and British filmmaker Hugh Welchman.
