It was announced on Monday, May 15, that Walt Disney Pictures was cyber attacked. According to Disney CEO Big Iger, the hackers are claiming to have access to one of the company's unreleased movies and are threatening to leak it online unless Disney pays a huge ransom.
While many media outlets were speculating which film was stolen, some saying it could be Cars 3, Deadline reported that it was indeed the 5th installment in the Pirates of The Caribbean series, set to release May 25th. Their source, however, was not revealed.
The hackers threatened to release the film's first five minutes and then the rest of the film in 20-minute sections if demands were not met.
Disney refused to pay the hefty ransom and is currently working with F.B.I. investigators to find who's behind the hack.
Disney will take a huge hit if this situation gets any worse. Can you imagine how crazy this would be if it were an even bigger Disney property like Star Wars or the Avengers?
