The Selena movie marks its 20th anniversary on March 21. And although fans have watched the flick over and over again for the past two decades, you'd be surprised to know that Chris Perez, Selena's widower, watched it for the first time in 2017. No lo puedo creer!
The 47-year-old musician, who is portrayed by Jon Seda in the 1997 Selena Quintanilla biopic starring Jennifer Lopez, let his fans know the surprising fact on Facebook.
Not only did he reveal that he was watching it for the first time, but he admitted that his eyes were mainly shut during the movie's premiere back in the '90s.
It was a "surreal" moment for the former Los Dinos member, who married the Queen of Tejano on April 2, 1992. It was also one heck of an emotional roller coaster. Behold:
At around midnight, Chris grabs his bottle of wine and makes it a movie night.
Although he tried to remain strong, deep down inside he was freaking out.
But soon after he loosened up.
The "Anything For Selenas" bumper scene totally happened IRL.
He was pumped to "meet" his character for the first time.
And... this is all of us right now. (Shoutout to Jon Seda)
Now we know that Selena and Chris said "I Love You" on their pizza date.
He revealed how nervous he would get around Selena. *blush*
Chris is one happy camper with his character, obviously.
The "hotel trashing" scene did happen. And Selena was PISSED.
Fun fact: They were already married when he trashed the hotel room.
Now we're super intrigued.
Then, he got very emotional and couldn't watch the end (and we totes understand).
But before he left... shoutout to JLo!
In the midst of all of us watching Chris watch Selena for the first time, the Grammy-winning artist even took time to answer fan questions. We discovered many fun facts like:
- He did take part of the hotel trashing, although the movie states otherwise.
- Selena made the first move.
- Suzette Quintanilla really did cut his hair (and no, she did not try to drown him).
- His first thoughts when he met Selena: "I first saw her in person in the parking lot of a Dennys Restaurant...she was hot. BUT, I was more focused on being their new guitar player."
That's all... we love you, Chris!
