If you think Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, then why not extend that happiness a little and start decorating early?
Now that Halloween is over, it's time to get red and green (and silver, gold, blue, etc) and festive!
What's more, putting up your holiday decorations can actually improve your happiness.
Why holiday decorations can be awesome for your mental state...
Steve McKeown, Psychoanalyst, founder of MindFixers and owner of The McKeown Clinic, told UNILAD recently:
"Although there could be a number of symptomatic reasons why someone would want to obsessively put up decorations early, most commonly for nostalgic reasons either to relive the magic or to compensate for past neglect. In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood. Decorations are simply an anchor or pathway to those old childhood magical emotions of excitement. So putting up those Christmas decorations early extend the excitement!"
And they can bring you closer to your neighbors!
Getting festive early could help you make friends. The Journal of Environmental Psychology reports that holiday decorations let your neighbors know that you're real and friendly, and generally people perceive people with holiday decor to be more welcoming. So if you're new to the neighborhood, it might be time to bring out the wreath and fairy lights.
Happy holidays - and happy decorating!
