Impressive: 72-year-old Woman Shows What Happens After Almost 30 Years Sugar-Free

Australian Carolyn Hartz is impressing the web. That's because at 72 years old she looks much younger. The secret? She hasn't eaten sugar in almost 30 years.

Mother of three, Carolyn told in an interview for the Daily Mail that the beginning of the process was not easy. She had to change her diet after being diagnosed with prediabetes at 41 years old.

Sugar substitutes

She explains how she did it in her book, 'Sugar-Free Baking'. Instead of sugar, she uses xylitol to make desserts.

Xylitol is a natural, low-calorie sweetener that tastes similar to sugar. It does not stimulate insulin production, therefore it has a low glycemic index and can be used by those who are on a strict diet.

To maintain the habit, she includes a protein in every meal, especially for lunch. She says doing this keeps her from craving sweets.

Good shape after 70

Carolyn likes to exercise outdoors. She walks at the park every day with her dog for at least 30 minutes, does yoga three times a week and plays tennis.

The Australian also believes that her good shape is due to other reasons, like sleeping at least 8 hours every night.

When it comes to beauty, she always removes her makeup before bed and has been doing so since she was 17. Plus, she applies moisturizer on her neck and eye cream.

"I wear sunscreen every day under my makeup and never sunbake," Carolyn said to the Daily Mail. She had cancer on her nose when she was 30 years old.

Meditation and gratitude are part of her morning routine. "I am so much calmer and intuitive since I have been meditating. I only started meditating at 65 so it is never too late," she said.
