With summer coming to a close (sadface!), we can do away with our iced drinks and frozen everything in exchange for warm and spicy drinks that can boost our immune system and keep us feeling cozy all throughout the fall.
Fall is PSL season, but there are three other super healthy and delicious warm drinks you’re going to want to start sipping at the turn of the season. Here’s why...
1. Hot Lemon Water With Honey
Use the honey if you like sweeter drinks, but if you’re more of a tart person, just drink the hot water with lemon. This tea-type of drink is great because it helps boost your immune system, it helps with weight loss, it helps with tummy problems and digestion, it clears up your skin, and keeps you feeling calmer throughout the day because of the amount of the vitamin C in the drink. Just heat up some water in the morning and slice up some fresh lemon, and squeeze it in. Add in a spoon of your favorite type of honey (clover, orange blossom, wildflower, eucalyptus, etc.) and enjoy.
2. Sweet Cinnamon Milk Tea
All you’ll need for this sweet and creamy drink is cinnamon sticks, black tea bags, milk, maple syrup or honey, and vanilla extract. Why is this a good choice? The cinnamon in the drink has several health benefits including its ability to help manage Type 2 diabetes and lower bad cholesterol,as well as having antiviral properties and anti-inflammatory properties. It will keep your cells healthy and functioning properly, and also helps with inflamed and painful joints. The bottom line? It’s great for your immune system.
All you have to do is combine two cups of water and the cinnamon sticks in a saucepan, and bring to boil. Add the your teabags to this mixture and let steep for about seven minutes, and then warm up your milk either in a saucepan or in the microwave. Remove the teabags and cinnamon from the saucepan and stir in the sweetener and vanilla extract. Mix the milk into the tea and drink up!
3. Turmeric Tea
This is great for athletes, or even just people who sit at a desk all day and go home with a backache after work (you know who you are). If your body has been aching lately, it might be time to try this out. All you’ll need is water, powdered tumeric, ground cinnamon and ginger, raw honey, and lemon juice. Begin by bringing the water to a light boil, and then adding in the spices, honey, and lemon juice. Remove the saucepan from the heat and cover with the lid for 10 minutes.
Why is this a “superdrink?” Turmeric is the key ingredient here. It’s been shown to help with depression, and with painful joints. If you’ve been feeling under the weather in terms of your emotional well being, you might want to dip on this. It’s also great for arthritis and turmeric is known for its anticancer effects. Stay healthy this fall with this warm, spicy drink.
