While McDonald's rolled out an affordable $1, $2, $3 menu in January, Burger King kicked off their 2018 sparking some controversy.
The fast-food chain, which is two years older than McD's, BTW, has been poking at its competitor since forevs! Remember the time they encouraged people to go dressed as a clown and leave like a king?
Now, they have done it again, but this time, they took it super far! BK dropped a new burger called the Double Quarter Pound King. Featuring more than 1/2 lb. of flame-grilled 100 percent beef, topped with all of their classic favorites: American cheese, freshly sliced onions, zesty pickles, ketchup, and mustard all on a toasted sesame seed bun, this new menu item is IDENTICAL to McDonald's very own Double Quarter Pounder.
Yup, they went there!
In a ~pretty sarcastic~ press release, the restaurant revealed why they decided to copy their competition's double pounder. Read the full statement below:
We’d like to offer our deepest condolences to all the flat-top fried double quarter pound burgers out there. We’re flame grilling the competition.
Flat-top fried double quarter pound burgers ruled the game for a long and meaty time, but now begins a new generation of double quarter pound burgers. Flame-grilled double quarter pound burgers, fit to wear the crown.
We’re bringing over 60 years of grilling expertise to our new flame-grilled Double Quarter Pound KING Sandwich. The new burger features more than ½ lb.* of flame-grilled, 100% beef and is topped with American cheese, freshly sliced onions, zesty pickles and ketchup, all on a toasted, sesame seed bun.
Who can compete with that?
So, go on and reflect on America’s time with flat-top fried double quarter pound burgers. Or don’t. Maybe you have something better to do with your time, like sinking your teeth into a flame-grilled Double Quarter Pound KING™ Sandwich for a recommended price of $5.39.
