We're never going to turn away a delicious plate of pasta. A pasta meal is easy, delicious and economical, so it's an overall win!
However, when you're making pasta at home, you should be aware of some common mistakes that will make it taste less delicious than it could be! But with these simple tips you can avoid these problems.
Don't salt the water too early
Although it is common to put salt in the water before it boils, the ideal way is to put the salt in after the water is already boiling. That's because the salt makes it difficult for the water to warm up and causes it to take more time to boil.
The oil is (literally) expendable
Another step that we can skip is adding oil to the water before putting the pasta. Since the oil remains on the surface of the water, it will not be absorbed by the pasta and will be discarded along with the water when it cools.
Pasta sauce and oil do not mix
Another common mistake is to put some oil in the cooked pasta. In that case, the oil will coat the surface of the pasta and prevent it from absorbing the sauce. Ideally, leave the oil aside and add the sauce directly to the pasta once it's nearly al dente.
