Colombian artist JC Cepeda will be presenting his latest piece titled "Environmental Vitiligo" during Art Basel in Miami. His piece reflects the ways in which consumerism has impacted indigenous groups in the Colombian Amazon.
Influenced by his experimental trips into the Colombian Amazon, Cepeda was able to learn about the Yagua tribe, their roots and their falling into decadence through their perceived knowledge of consumerism. According to JC," these tribes have been strongly influenced by money and materialism, creating “vitiligo patches” in their histories."
JC Cepeda is currently exhibiting his works in U.S., Colombia and Singapore and he will be showing his pieces in Spectrum Miami from December 5-9.
