Technology is ruling the world and although we make it our best effort to keep our kids away from tech gadgets and the internet, sometimes it's impossible.

Schools now require the internet to turn in homework or view grades, Kid-friendly tablets are being sold on Amazon, and a bunch of apps downloaded by your child is taking over your phone.

Because it's not easy to keep your kid away from the world wide web and its dangers, such as creepers on the net, safer options are being developed for parents. For example, Facebook's new Messenger Kids.

After talking to thousands of parents and parenting experts, including the National PTA, Facebook has developed a new messaging app for kids that will be controlled by parents.

"To give kids and parents a fun, safer solution, we built Messenger Kids, a standalone app that lives on kids’ tablets or smartphones but can be controlled from a parent’s Facebook account," said Loren Cheng, Product Management Director in a statement. "Whether it’s using video chat to talk to grandparents, staying in touch with cousins who live far away, or sending mom a decorated photo while she’s working late to say hi, Messenger Kids opens up a new world of online communication to families."

So, in a gist, mom and dad will have control of who their kids can chat with online. The Facebook app, which is currently available only in the Apple App Store, has a lot of cool features that kids of all ages will love, including fun filters, emojis, sound effects, drawing tools, and much more.

Messenger Kids will be coming to the Amazon App Store and Google Play Store in the coming months.
