According to gynecologist and obstetrician Jorge Rezende Filho, about 20% of the couples in the world have difficulty getting pregnant. He says that, in general, 40% of cases affect women and 40%, men. In 10% of cases, the difficulty is attributed to both and approximately 10% have no apparent cause.
In women, the factors that cause infertility more frequently are ovulatory alterations, endometriosis, myomas or obstruction of the tubes. In men, the decrease in sperm rates or erectile dysfunction may be the cause of infertility. "There are several fertility treatments out there. The important thing is to know the couple's history to get an accurate diagnosis before moving on to more complex options, with higher emotional and financial costs," says the doctor. He lists some signs that show whether or not the woman may have fertility problems.
