Beth Behrs, star of CBS’ 2 Broke Girls, has formed a partnership with horse whisperer and equine guided educator Cassandra Ogier to create a workshop for sexual assault survivors using horse therapy, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
Last year, after suffering from panic attacks and anxiety, Behrs went to Ogier on recommendation of 2 Broke Girls co-creator Whitney Cummings. Behrs already had a program, called The Reflective Horse, which “pairs horses with people in various forms of emotional crisis.” She also offered Somatic Riding, her own type of equine therapy, where participants learn to ride horses without saddles, “fostering vulnerability and trust.”
The new workshop, which will last three days and form under Behrs and Ogier’s new non-profit, The Reflective Horse Foundation, is called SheHerdPower and will focus solely on sexual assault survivors. Their website says the program is designed to evoke, restore, and empower.
“Horses serve as a spiritual coach or master, teaching us how to focus our intention, and show us how to live in the present, attaining Zen-like tranquility,” the site reads. Participants should expect to reduce anxiety, build confidence, reconnect with themselves, and build relationships, among others.
According to THR, the program was funded by personal investments from Behrs in addition to earnings from fundraising events.
The cost of the program will be free for participants, and will take place in Flag Ranch in Northern California, April 2017.
I have been driven for years by the need to be an active trail blazing voice for survivors of sexual assault. But until #SheHerdPower (link in bio) I wasn't sure how I was going to go about my fight. I am committed in the most soul clenching , visceral way to helping give a voice to survivors of this horrific violent crime. SheHerdPower is a 3 day program offered through #TheReflectiveHorseFoundation (and in collaboration with one of my mentors and dear friend @peonyo- president of TRHF) and located at the amazing @flagranchsanctuary to provide sexual assault and sexual abuse survivors a FREE weekend of equine guided education designed to evoke, restore and most importantly #empower. Please consider on this #givingtuesday donating to SheHerdPower and being a voice for survivors. Photos by the amazing #womanwarrior / Photog my dear friend @palominocimino
