Maybe it’s our yearning for a simpler time or maybe shit was just way cooler when we were kids. In an effort to continue this trend of reviving things from yesteryear, MTV has just announced they will be bringing back everyone’s favorite countdown video hour TRL.
TRL 2.0 will debut June 12 and is being called MTV Live for now. The brainchild of this new move is MTV’s President Chris McCarthy who told Adweek, “That ability to be live, in culture — not responding to it but driving it — is where we belong.”
MTV Live will be a mix of music and other cool components and will broadcast out of the OG TRL studio--which has been expanded and given a tech-friendly makeover. McCarthy has made amazing moves for MTV. He recently changed the MTV Movie Awards to include television shows and has removed gender from the award show’s categories.
I’m just hoping Mariah Carey visits MTV Live and has another iconic hot mess moment.
