It's been one month since 2017 kicked off and Prince Royce already has a lot on his plate. The new year is a promising one for the bachata crooner, which not only includes a new TV venture but also an album release just around the corner.
We caught up with the 27-year-old Dominican singer and talked all about his projects, including being a judge on Univision's new reality show, Pequeños Gigantes USA.
VIX: What are we going to expect in Pequeños Gigantes USA?
PRINCE ROYCE: So, I'm a judge in Pequenos Gigantes USA. It's basically a show of kids with all sorts of talents. We have comedians, actors, singers, musicians. It's fun to see what kids have to offer and at the same time be part of their life and give them advice. You know, these kids are so young, they really are babies. Some of these kids don't even have their full singing voice yet. I think it's a fun show for the family. Also for me, a good way to be closer to my fans every night.
VIX: As a judge, what are you expecting from the winner?
PRINCE ROYCE: I'm just expecting kids with natural talents. I'm not here to be super strict or super strong. Like I said, they are young kids, but some of these kids have so much potential to grow within the week. I think I'm looking for those kids who are having fun and truly have talent.
VIX: Now, if you had the opportunity to be on a show like this one growing up, what three artists would you have liked to be your judges?
PRINCE ROYCE: I would have liked Juan Luis Guerra, I would've liked Marc Anthony. I would've liked to get some tips from Luis Miguel. He's like a mystery dude. I would like to know what he's been cooking. What he would suggest.
VIX: On that note, what advice would the Prince Royce of today give to the younger aspiring Prince Royce?
PRINCE ROYCE: I think it's just perseverance, hard work, take it serious. You need to believe in yourself before anyone else does. So it all starts with yourself. Going from there, never quitting, never stopping.
VIX: Now, let's talk about your upcoming album!
PRINCE ROYCE: New album Five . February 10, pre-order. The album comes out February 24th. Little by little, from now until then, we will be releasing some previews and revealing collaborations. We've got great collabs; American artists singing bachata, Latin artists that I'm a fan of singing bachata. It's an all Spanish album, a lot of tropical music. This is going to be a great year for bachata.
Mexican-American Regional artist Luis Coronel and Mexican actress Bianca Marroquín are also judges on the show, which is hosted by Giselle Blondet. Pequeños Gigantes USA premieres February 6 and runs at 8 p.m. ET every Monday through Thursday on Univision.
