While most of us were setting savings goals or resolutions to shed pounds that would likely fall through within the first few weeks, or if you’re really determined it'd typically taper off around spring time, Mark Zurckerberg's resolution was to develop artificial intelligence technology that would rival Jarvis from Iron Man. Talk about goals AF!
He also set out to run 365 miles in 2016, which would average a mile a day, but we are more concerned with the AI. So far he has built a simple intelligence system that allows him to control his home, including temperature, lights, music, appliances, and security all by communicating with his phone or computer.
Jarvis can also learn new words and concepts and uses several AI techniques like speech recognition, natural language processing, speech and face recognition, and reinforcement learning. The AI system even learns his individual tastes and patterns. Zuckerberg uses his real-life version of Jarvis daily and although both 2016 and AI challenge is wrapping up, he still has plans to take things even further.
The social media titan is always finding new things to add on and continued improvements are on the horizon. The clearest next steps in the near future are building Android apps, setting up Jarvis terminals in more rooms, and connecting more appliances.
Long term goals will find Jarvis learning new skills on its own instead of having to be taught them. The final and most awaited step will be finding a way to make Jarvis available to the world. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that making it available to the public is somewhere in his list of 2017 resolutions.
