We’ll go to great lengths for the ones we love, and Shelby Hennick is no exception, especially when it comes to her grandma.
Her grandma was in the hospital for a bad reaction to medication, Metro UK reports, and she was dying to see her little dog Patsy. Hennick, a 21-year-old vet tech, made it happen even though pets weren’t allowed in the hospital. She wrapped the pup in a blanket, put it against her chest and pretended it was a baby in order to get it through. It worked!
“My grandma is in the hospital right now and wanted to see her dog. So I made it look like I was carrying a baby and we made it ,” she tweeted on June 11.
Shelby told Metro UK that she is very close to her grandma and lives a mere 20 minutes away, so she visits regularly. Her grandma has owned Patsy for 13 years, and they have a pretty strong bond, she said. After she had been in the hospital for three days, Shelby decided to surprise her with a spontaneous visit from Patsy. It was originally her mom’s idea, but she just so happened to be passing by her grandma’s house at the moment that her mom proposed the idea, so they went for it.
“Nothing was planned, I just by chance had a blanket in my car, swaddled her up and just walked in!” she said. “Luckily, we’ve been in the hospital enough lately that they remembered who we were so we just walked by and waved to them!”
Based on the images, both grandma and pupper seemed pleased to be back in each other’s company. Naturally, Twitter had a field day and the post has already been re-tweeted over 132,000 times. People from all corners of the internet have tweeted back at Shelby, expressing how much her act of kindness impacted them.
“I really wish i[sic] could have done that with my grandma before she died, she loved her dog so much and we tried to sneak him in but couldnt[sic],” one user said. Another person shared a similar story of when they snuck their grandpa’s doggo to the hospital, too.
Although Shelby has gotten some hate for the sneak-in from people who say it was wrong (“people are allergic to them,” and “have compromised immune systems,” say the Twitter trolls), she seemingly has no regrets.
“I was really happy we were able to pull it off,” she told Metro UK, “and I’m sure it made her day.”
